back in Indiana...

Since leaving North Carolina three months ago, life has been pretty dull, until recently. Summer consisted primarily of us sitting around the house. Neither of us were able to get jobs partially because we missed the summer job ‘window of opportunity’ (May and early June) but also because we just didn’t try that hard. We did go on vacation with my family for a week and made several other trips over to Ohio, but mostly just stayed at home and were dad Satterblom’s little helpers.

As far as Kev’s teaching job goes, he really had 1 interview in the beginning of the summer and then nothing happened until August. I was starting to get nervous when both of Kev’s parents went back to school and we still didn’t have any idea where we were going to be. It was about this time when the ‘Satterblom Network of Educators’ (mom and dad S. have some kind of connection with almost every school district around here) kicked it into high gear and within a week we received 2 phone calls about several open positions in a nearby school district. The first of the 2 schools that he interviewed with love him, but they needed someone with a little more experience with language arts. The next interview was just as good and later that night the principal (a lady Kev has known since he was 5) called and offered him a job. Three days later we were in his classroom setting things up and then 2 days after that, he started school.
School is a thousand times better than last year and Kev actually enjoys going to work. His classroom consists of 23 kids two of which are autistic. He comes home regularly with ridiculous stories and is still impress with the fact that everyone turns is the assignments that he gives and they are normally done well. (neither of which happened much last year).

Last weekend we officially moved out of mom and dad’s basement. Although it was nice to be able to mooch off of them for the entire summer, we’re really enjoying being on our own again. One thing we didn’t realize when we decided to stay in this area was that rental prices are comparable to those in Chicago. A fairly run-down 1 bedroom apartment can cost as much as $800 (and that does not include utilities). So, after much searching, we settled on a 2006, 4 bedroom, 2 ½ bath house in Crown Point. (the house is a whole other story)
